Can someone help me understand what the Class X Result/Report Card will be based on, for the session 2010-2011 ?
The school, where I admitted my children, said that they were not clear about what the eventual criteria would be.
I was under the impression that a student could opt for the Board Exam, and that the Final Grade/Result would be based on three factors
1. Internal Assessment based on class IX
2. Internal Assessment based on class X
3. The Board Exam for class X
Now I am getting different information from different sources, and googling hasn’t helped much.
What exactly is meant by the Board Exam being optional ?

I really need to know what the CBSE class X result will be based on.
My son moved from a ICSE School to a CBSE school in class X, so he will get zero marks for class IX.

Hi,
You can have a view of CCE report card at the link below (copy and paste the link in your web browser's address bar)
http://www.cbse.nic.in/cce/CCE%20CARD.pdf
1. CCE Card portion related to class 9th will be empty in your case and marks-sheet of ICSE school will be considered for further admissions (if class 9th performance required)
2. Class 10 exam will be fully CCE Based and you will be evaluated according to latest CCE pattern.
3. If you have chosen Board Exam at the place of school based home examination, the SA-2 will be from CBSE Board for 40 marks and 60 marks will be based on FA-1 & 2 and SA-1. These all except SA-2 will be part of CCE school based home examination.

Thank you, Mr. Basant Pandey.
Here are some facts:
Letter of Application to School : 17-3-2010
Provisional Admission of Son to Class X (Pending TC and Board approval) : 22-3-2010
Transfer Certificate (dt. 26-3-2010 and countersigned on 21-4-2010) submitted on 23-4-2010
The school Principal said that she was not clear about what the eventual criteria would be, but never gave any indication that the Main Board exam would not be held.
In fact I assured my son that even though he would not get the internal assessment marks for class IX, he would be okay because we would opt for the board exam. This happened in the Principal's office, in her presence.
I was under the impression that a student could opt for the Board Exam, and that the Final Grade/Result would be based on three factors
1. Internal Assessment based on class IX (10%)
2. Internal Assessment based on class X (10%)
3. The Board Exam for class X (80%)
In fact the class X teacher announced in the class, on three occasions, that the board exam would be held (for those opting for it) and that the internal assessment would be worth 20% and the board exam would be worth 80%.
Now, from what I can understand from your post (and elsewhere on the internet) , the class X Result will be based only on CCE with 50% weightage for each of class IX and Class X.
This would mean that my son's result will be based only on the 50% allocated to class X.
This is outrageous, as the School should have clearly informed us that my son's result would be based only on the 50% allocated to class X.
It is also a major failure on part of CBSE to not take into consideration that children coming from another board, straight into class X, would be so heavily penalized.
