Around 9 lakh students fate was decided on Friday morning when CBSE declared its class 10th result. The much awaited result came in new pattern of grades which proved difficult to understand for both the students and parents. The counselors got a busy schedule yesterday in order to help the parents understand this new pattern of grading. In this pattern the percentage system has been replaced by the grading system per subject as well as net percentage has been dropped by CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average). However, the approx percentage can be calculated by multiplying the CGPA by 9.5.
“There is no excitement and anxiety for the coming result .Without percentage the result has nothing special because there are many to get the 10 CGPA”,said a local school boy.
Parents are not happy either because they are interested in their wards actual percentage rather than the approximation. “My son got A1 in all but 15 other students have got the same in the school .I ask what differentiates my son from the rest 15 in this competitive world?”, says the guardian of a preboard topper of a school.
This nine scale grading system is appreciated by the teachers and Principals of many schools. “I have seen many students in stress due to 1 % less than others. This move will definitely remove the negative feelings from students mind. The end of compartmental system is another appreciable step taken by the CBSE as it puts tons of pressure on weak children”, says Anitha Choudhary, the counselor in the city.
In regard to percentage calculation, a student complains “I have got 10 CGPA but my percentage is 95%. However I was expecting more than 95%. This system is nowhere near fair”.
It has been reported that from next year, Board exams are not going to be the mandatory. The students, who wish to study in different school for 12th, can give the exams, or else those who wish to continue in the same school, they can move to 11th without boards.
