Hots stands for the Higher Order Thinking Skills. From this year 20% of the paper will have analytical questions which will be different from past year's papers. This means that these will be phrased differently from the regular questions and answering them will require sound understanding of concepts as well as critical thinking. Just have been done to differentiate the best from the rest. If a student scores 100 % in this paper, then he is really the best. In the new scheme 10% of the questions will be very short answer questions, and 20% will be concept based. The rust though remains the same.

Hey thats true that HOTS r not so difficult when we have a clear underastanding of the concepts. But reading the NCERT Text book is not the only solution. One has to do some more efforts like solving HOTS questions on the Internet and from some other sources. I also did it. They helped me to get 100 marks in Maths in 10th Board Exams 2009. ;-)
